The Minister of Natural Resources, along with the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the Niue Statistics Office are proud to release the results for the NIUE CENSUS of AGRICULTURE 2021.

The Agriculture Census Enumeration phase started in August 2021.

About the Agriculture Census

The census of agriculture is the principal means of collecting basic agricultural statistics in a country as part of an integrated program of data collection and compilation aimed at providing a comprehensive source of statistical information for agricultural purposes, as well as for research, businesses and other uses, in addition to the usual statistical uses.

The census of agriculture provides a snapshot of agriculture in a country and an opportunity to identify trends or structural breaks in the sector as well as possible areas for intervention. Census data are used as a basis or benchmark for current statistics but the value of these data is increased when the results are combined with the results of other investigations and used for planning and policy purposes, including areas of investment and informed business decisions.

The first Agriculture Census was conducted in 1989, this was followed by the 2009 Agriculture Census.

A summary of findings from the 2021, 1989, and the 2009 agriculture census are shown below.
