International merchandise trade plays a crucial role in economic development, binding producers and consumers located in different countries into a global economic system. The availability of timely, high quality international trade statistics is therefore vital for the analysis of production, consumption, employment, etc. at national and global levels.

Key findings
- Total exports for Niue in 2021 was $1,089,752, an increase of 27.6% from 2020 exports ($853,812).
- Total imports was $19,631,453, an increase of 8.4% from 2020 imports (($18,105,374).
- Main contributors to Exports were (1) Mineral products, (2) Vegetable products, and (3) Prepared foodstuffs, beverages, spirits and tobacco.
- Main contributors to imports were (1) Prepared foodstuffs, beverages, spirits and tobacco, (2) Mineral products, and (3) Machinery and mechanical and electrical appliances and parts thereof.

Domestic exports and re-export figures were extracted from Niue Customs records, Niue Numismatic records, records from Niue Bulk Fuel. Records collected of goods carried by passengers when travelling as informal trade is not included in this year’s analysis.
